I grew up in a small town in Northern California where my 10th grade English teacher, Mrs. Lemos kept me after school every day and made me read Shakespear while holding my tongue to get me to stop stuttering. What an amazing gift that was. I was 15 when I discovered I could change anything I didn't like and I would never be stuck with anything that I didn't intend. It's a good thing that I learned that so early in life as I have been confronted with more challenges than most ten people ever thought of. The miracle is that each of the challenges have become a precious gift. Each and every day I look for the next person that will expose me to my next adventure.

Self Publishing

I have about twenty years in the printing industry, which has always been a double-edged sword. On the positive side, I can do a lot of the technical requirements for my books. The negative side is being aware of the fallacies in the publishing industry. A friend of mine published her first book in 1991 and the publisher paid her 35 cents per book. The publisher printed the book but she still had to hire an expensive publicist to get interviews on well know shows. And she had to book her appearances at bookstores and some of the radio shows. I’ve always believed that big name publishers leave a lot to be desired when it comes to serving authors.Recently, one of my books was accepted at a well know publisher and I was amazed that I was able to keep the rights to self-publish the book. They also agreed to pay me 70% commission. The reason I believe this is such a great deal is that with radio interviews, I don’t want to be responsible for getting the books boxed, labeled and to the post office. So, I now have a great reason to engage a publisher. Let me know if you’d like to investigate some of the resources I’ve discovered.

Do you have a book waiting to be written?

I believe that everyone has at least one book within them. Our lives are filled with adventures, twists and turns. It is exactly how we live each day that makes our lives interesting. The stories are what others enjoy. Have you ever had a challenge that turned your life in a new direction? Were you ever challenged to come up with more strength that you thought you had within you? Did you ever witness a miraculous recovery from a major illness? These examples are where the stories begin. Is it possible that you have ideas that would help youth or seniors overcome their challenges?
Becoming an author is empowering. It elevates your status as a credible resource. You will find that doors are opened as an author and you will become an inspiration to others. What’s your book? What are you doing to take the first step to becoming a published author?

Author's Challenge

What’s your biggest challenge as an author? Depending on where you are in the development of our book or career as an author, there are always challenges, but the severity simply changes along the way. Recognize why you write and what you want your legacy to be. Some write simply to express their opinions or perhaps to share their knowledge. Maybe your life story will have a great impact on others and just has to be told. No matter why you’ve chosen to write, you will be able to get your material out in the world and bask in the spotlight. Grant yourself the right to follow your dreams and stay true to yourself and your style.

Authors Wanted

Authors Unite! If you are an author, you know what I'm about to tell you! You spend your time committing your intellectual knowledge to paper; you try to find an agent and if you’re lucky, you can get one to promote you to publishers. Then you feel like you’ve won when the publisher offers you 35 to 50 cents for every book you sell, even though it’s completely up to you to get the radio interviews and book signings at the book stores.
So here’s what I propose, self publish your book and keep 10 – 15 dollars per book. At the end of the day, you’re the one who deserves it. I spend 20 years in the printing industry so I found it easy to print my first book in 2000. Now that my 3rd book has just been released, I’m more excited that ever about self-publishing. Let me know if you need any help, I’ve detailed every step you need to do and will offer you a free CD just for visiting my website. Let me help you keep the money you work so hard to earn with your books.
